SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule with the formula C18H14N2O2, a molecular weight of about 290.3 g/mol and the CAS number 303760-60-3. It acts as an agonist at the estrogen-related receptors (ERRα, β and γ), most strongly at ERRα. Despite the name, these nuclear receptors do not bind estrogen. They are central to how muscle cells regulate energy metabolism, switching on the genes for building mitochondria and for burning fat as fuel, and the same pathway is one of the signals exercise itself switches on, which is why the compound is described in the literature as an exercise mimetic. It was developed at Saint Louis University, hence the name, and the main studies were published in 2023, so the literature is young and almost entirely pre-clinical: the published work is in cells and mice, including a mouse model of metabolic syndrome.
