BPC-157, or Body Protection Compound-157, is a 15-amino-acid peptide sequence derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It is commonly researched for its role in the gut's own repair processes and the integrity of the digestive lining, and — the larger body of work — for tissue repair in muscle, tendon and ligament models. The mechanisms under study include blood-vessel formation and the modulation of the growth factors involved in repair; its interaction with the dopamine and nitric oxide systems and its effects on organ tissue are further, more recent lines of inquiry.
