Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide — five amino acids — that acts at the ghrelin receptor, the same receptor the body's own hunger hormone uses to signal the pituitary. It was developed in the 1990s as a selective growth-hormone secretagogue: in the original assays it acted on growth-hormone release without the cortisol and prolactin effects of earlier compounds in the class, and that selectivity is the property most of the literature is built on. It is commonly researched in growth-hormone-axis, body-composition and recovery models, and for the sleep-linked rhythms that run alongside that axis. Supplied as 5mg of freeze-dried powder per vial, for reconstitution with bacteriostatic water; store at 2–8°C.
