Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide built from tuftsin — a four-amino-acid fragment of the antibody molecule IgG with a role in immune signalling — with a proline-glycine-proline tail added for stability, the same stabilising tail used on Semax, and it comes from the same Russian research programme. It is commonly researched for its effects on the GABA, dopamine and serotonin systems, in models of anxiety and the stress response, and for its influence on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Its immune origin means it is also studied where the nervous and immune systems overlap. Supplied as 5mg of freeze-dried powder per vial, for reconstitution with bacteriostatic water; store at 2–8°C.
